My room is one of the most social places on my floor. People come in and out at all hours. So as you might imagine its hard to concentrate.

Where is a good place to study? I often study late at night and i don't want to be too far away from the dorms.

Find a good place that isn't social, like a lounge or a common room. For some reason those usually aren't actually filled with people at all hours (Mine is entirely empty at this point in time.) Kitchens aren't half bad when it isn't close to any meal time/midnight.

I usually go to the library if it gets too loud in the dorm. Either that or go to a friend's dorm if it is quieter there. Another option could be to listen to some music with headphones, so that you don't hear the commotion.

In my old dorm, we had a philosophy of "If door is open, socializing is ok", otherwise it was assumed that you wanted to be semi-private or whatever.

Typically when I want to study I go to a coffeeshop into the back, I go to the library, or I find a quiet room somewhere. If you are friendly with a grad student, you might be able to hang out in his office and mooch help from him and be in a quiet area.

Close your door if it's really that big a problem! Other options include the library or those armchairs down by Beanz outside Gracie's.

One thing I used to do on nice nights was grab my books and drive out to a secluded area- someplace like Mendon Ponds, or down in Churchville- park on the side of the road and study in my car. If it was warmer I'd go sit on the hood of my car, with a flashlight if it was dark and the moon wasn't bright enough. It was just a really peaceful, excellent studying place. I've also heard studying in a place you don't normally do other things helps data retention, though I don't know how accuate that is.

Sometimes, if I really need to focus, I'll go into someone else's room and do homework. Maybe I'll talk to them, maybe I won't. But just moving somewhere else can help me knuckle down and focus on my school work.

I think I'm weird, but I like to study with a little bit of noise around me. Having a little bit of distraction, like other people having a conversation or even just music playing helps me study. I've been doing my homework now at where I work, it's called Palmer's Market, and I find that it is really easy to work there, plus if you get hungry or thirsty while you are working, they have that stuff there. Plus free wi-fi

Depending on how late it is (past the time Gracie's closes) you should try the common area outside of Gracie's. They have the couches and coffee tables, so you are at least comfortable while doing work

It's often a real motivator to be in the places on campus that are used by Grad Students or business people doing night/weekend classes for an advanced degree. The seriousness of most of these students helps remind you that this time is about getting a degree and doing something with it when you are done... i.e. it's not just a "social bus stop" on the freeway of life.

For example, don't feel the special libraries are off limits to you. Quite often a campus will have a special law or medical school library. Just be respectful of other people's needs to stay on task and you'll have the "undistracting space" you'll need to study your way through school.
